My credit score is in the 6%26#039;s not great but better than my BF and he gets approved for cards, computers all types of things and I cant get anything... I dont know what im doing wrong.
I have a decent credit score but I still cant get approved for credit... what can I do??
You must have credit already extended to you and your debt to income ratio is too high.

You can probably get approved for a credit card that has an annual fee (capital one has some). These cards suck, but better than nothing.

It may also depend on your current job and income. From http://acreditlibrary.com

Credit companies look at several factors; score is only one. Another datapoint is your debt to earning ratio. That is, if you bring home 2,000/month and your monthly bills (utilities, rent, credit, everything) run 1,500/month than your debit to earning ratio is .75 or 75%.
Score and debt ratio are the two markers looked at first.

The more times you apply for credit, the more your score comes down...5-10 points per inquiry. Also the more you apply the more desparate you look. You should not apply for credit more than once every 6 months.
Your eligibility for credit is not soley dependent on your credit score...it is also based on your DTI ratio. So if your bf makes more money than you and has less debt that may be why.
You say it is in the 600%26#039;s but that is a lot of room...625 is bad, 690 is great...so you really don%26#039;t give enough info either.

No matter what anyone says, credit is not based on score alone.
Your credit score is based on the following factors;
1. Payment history 35%
2. Time in bureau 15%
3. Types of credit 10%
4. New credit 10%
5. Debt to credit ratio 15%
As you can see 1,2%26amp;5 are the most important as far as score goes, but you need much more then just a good score you also need a good profile.
I look at credit every day and see people with 700 Scores that can not buy a car because their score is made up of 1 credit card with a $500.00 limit paid 15-times and a couple of student loans.
While this type of profile produces a great score it doe%26#039;s not show tha ability or the willingness to actually pay anybody.
What you need is 3 credit card accounts (revolving) with balances below 30% of your credit limit and 2 cars, boats, homes, furniture or personal accounts (installment) all with good long payment history%26#039;s.
It takes years to establish really good credit and only a couple of months to trash it.

Secured credit cards are a great way to rebuild your credit. Most secured credit card companies require a deposit equal to the credit line your are seeking. Make sure they report your payment monthly to the major credit bureaus. Making your payments on time monthly will increase your credit rating. You will also get you deposit returned to you after one year, turning your secured credit card into a unsecured credit card.
