I'm from Europe. What do I do to improve my US credit score?

Here%26#039;s the thing. I%26#039;m from Europe, but I%26#039;ll be moving to New York next year and staying there for good. My credit score here doesn%26#039;t count, so I%26#039;d like to know how to improve my CS in the US. Last Summer I was in NY for 2-3 months and got a credit card from Bank of America, as well as a savings and checking account. During this time I managed to use the credit card for small payments adding up to be a couple hundred dollars, that%26#039;s it. Of course I always paid it off well before it was due. During this one more year I%26#039;m in Europe I guess I can use the CC a little bit.

What would my credit score be now? Probably not zero, but would it be bad?! Anything I can do?

If not, next year when I come to New York, what would you recommend I should do during maybe one year%26#039;s time to have a decent credit score? Just get more credit cards? Try to get a small loan? Just get bills in my name and keep paying them?

Any advice for this situation of mine would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Activity is what it takes - spending money and paying bills on time. If you have income paid in USD, getting a direct deposit paid into a checking account in a US bank will get you some preferential treatment by the bank.

When I moved from England to the USA in 1993, having a monthly salary direct deposited in my checking account, any other checks deposited in my account were cleared immediately - no waiting 5/7/10 days.

How to improve my credit score? Good question. To find out specifically what you must do to raise your score, you can order your score report from all three national credit bureaus. In addition to your score%26lt;!--you%26#039;ll get your credit report, an indication of how your score ranks nationally and an explanation of how you can boost your standing.

In order to improve your credit score, it%26#039;s important to know where you stand currently. Despite all the media attention given to free credit reports--%26gt;you still have to pay to find out your credit score, the three-digit number ranging from 300 to 850 that is the key to your borrowing costs.
