Does getting a divorce lower your credit score?

I have good credit, and I%26#039;m not sure what my husband%26#039;s credit score is, but we didn%26#039;t buy anything together. I heard that getting a divorce will lower my credit score. Is this true??

Does getting a divorce lower your credit score?

Possibly yes, possibly no....but it for damn sure improves your happiness level.

Does getting a divorce lower your credit score?

No, the only way that your credit score will drop is if you have bills like credit cards, cell phones, mortgage, etc. and they don%26#039;t get paid off and you both let them go. The divorce it self doesn%26#039;t touch your credit score.

Does getting a divorce lower your credit score?

I don%26#039;t think just getting a divorce lawyer will lower your credit. You would be surprised, however, how much of your credit is associated with your spouse even if you didn%26#039;t buy anything together. If you have his credit card info, you may just call the card company and ask them to remove your name from his account if it%26#039;s there.

Does getting a divorce lower your credit score?

If you werent buying things together (adding your incomes together) then the divorce will have no effect

No !!

I%26#039;m afraid it will.........this is from a man%26#039;s point of view, but I%26#039;m told by the people that know me( more than half (1/2) of them women) that my opinion is an honest one, even if it means admitting men are not always right. Hypothetical situation: a couple plans to marry, the man%26#039;s credit is not real good, his bride, on the other hand, has a great rating. They start purchasing things for their nest, on the virtue of the bride%26#039;s swell credit, their able to get pretty much what they want.( Before I go any further, we%26#039;ll establish that both had excellent jobs, with senority as well) A few years down the road, divorce time, not a wicked split( no children) but %26quot;done%26quot; none the less. In most states, by law, large taxable items like homes, land, businesses and the like, have to be in both names, in a divorce proceddings, items in both names, have to be settled at that time. Now comes the sh*ty part, it%26#039;s entirely possible that things get turned around, the blushing bride might find herself on the short end of the credit stick, where as the dude, suddenly has better than good credit. I have no explanation for this turn of events......but I%26#039;ve seen it happen. The woman, on the other hand is left to start from the bottom of the credit ladder. This is totally unfair, but in a man%26#039;s world................ A woman that can get out of a marriage with her credit intact, is very lucky, there are many that don%26#039;t. Hope I was able to help........GOOD LUCK........LATER
